YouTube live streaming trial launched

YouTube, the video sharing service from Google, has launched an experimental trial for live streaming video. The two day trial will begin on Monday and is being conducted in collaboration with YouTube's four partner sites.

Live videos are added to channel pages from Howcast, Rocketboom, Next New Networks, and Young Hollywood. Joshua Siegel, Product Manager, YouTube said of the trial, "We think of live as the next chapter in online video. This is just an initial trial, a first step."

This venture of YouTube's can be likened to the efforts of Ustream and Livestream. The new platform needs broadcasters to have just a webcam or an external camera to use the feature, once the trial version is made available.

Google remarked on the trial saying that live streaming was 'a natural evolution to online video' and added 'an extra level of engagement' for YouTube's audience.

YouTube's earlier attempt of live streaming during the Indian Premier League (IPL) saw a huge response from the viewers garnering nearly 55 million views.
