Nokia ready to launch its Windows Phone

Nokia's Windows Phone To Get Unveiled by March 2012Nokia will unveil its Windows phone in India before March 2012 as a part of its global launch of handsets based on the new Windows operating system.

Speaking to Economic Times, Nokia India's managing director D Shivkumar said, "Work for the Windows phone is on track and it would be launched in the first quarter of next year."

The Finnish handset maker is also in the process of finalizing its new Indian head after Nokia reestablished its worldwide operations. Nokia India is scheduled to have a new India head from January but the company's hunt for the best candidate has not finished yet. "We're looking for people and examining internal and external candidates. As is mandatory for every senior role, we always take the best from the industry," Shivkumar added without giving a timeframe to finalize the candidate.

Recently the company merged its eight global sales regions into four and promoted Shivakumar to the post of senior vice president and is likely to head India, the Middle East and Africa from January. The Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific, including China, form the other three regions that will be headed by former Microsoft employee Chris Webber, Victor Saeijs (from Finland) and Olivier Puech (from Beijing), respectively.

Earlier this year, Nokia had declared an extensive strategic overhaul where it selected Microsoft's Windows as the new operating system for its future handsets and decided to phase out Symbian, an operating system used by majority of mobile phone users globally.
