Tata-DoCoMo to launch 3G services in November

Tata-DoCoMo, the GSM unit of Tata Teleservices, has become the first GSM service provider to announce the launch of much anticipated 3G services in the country. The company is set to launch the 3G mobile services across nine circles - Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (West), Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh – by this Deewali. Initially, 3G coverage will be available only in top cities of each State. Tata Tele has given the 3G equipment contract to Nokia Siemens and Chinese vendor Huawei. 


"We are all set to launch 3G services on Diwali. With this customers will have access to high speed Internet access and rich multimedia content and applications. Our partners NTT DoCoMo are leaders in 3G services and we are leveraging their expertise to bring the best to our customers," said Deepak Gulati, President, Mobility, Tata Teleservices.

With this announcement, the 3G mobile services, which is expected to provide a host of new applications and services like mobile TV, location based services, mobile health and mobile education on handsets, is set to make waves in the fast growing mobile industry in India.

Other mobile operators which had won 3G spectrum are yet to reveal as to when they will launch the service. Most of them have broadly indicated that services will be available to consumers by year-end.
