After much speculation and anticipation, Apple finally launched its new iPhone 4S on 4th October 2011. Apple New CEO, Tim Cook took the center stage at company's headquarters in California to launch the year's most-speculated Smartphone.

Many people thought the new iPhone would have a bigger screen and a thinner design, but the device looks a heck of a lot like the iPhone 4.

The iPhone 4S does offer many hardware and software improvements that make it a significant upgrade over the iPhone 4. These include a faster processor, a much better camera, an virtual voice-powered assistant and doubled data speeds.

1. Looks
Many people believed that the company would show off an iPhone with an all-new design. But it didn't do anything of the sort. In fact, the iPhone 4S features the same, basic design as its predecessor, including the glass panels and thin design. It would have been nice to see at least one major design improvement but Apple didn't have that in its plans.

The iPhone 4S looks exactly like the iPhone 4 as far as the hardware and display is concerned. Aside from the 4S label on the back, you won't notice a difference. It has a 3.5-inch, 960-by-640-pixel Retina Display. On the plus side, the Retina Display is really great.

2. A5 Processor

The iPhone 4S includes the same, powerful, Apple-made A5 processor that runs the iPad, which will enable fast performance and strong gaming abilities.

The company claims A5 chip will be seven times faster than the processor in the previous model. The phone packs dual-core graphics, which will allow for faster and improved 3D experience.

A5 processor is quick and responsive, which makes all the difference when you?re launching apps, browsing the web, gaming, and doing just about everything. And no matter what you're doing, you can keep on doing it.
3. Camera

Apple has brought the 8-megapixel camera to the iPhone 4S. The company says that the improved camera will help users snap pictures more quickly and more accurately reproduce colors. On the video side, the iPhone 4S supports 1080p HD recording and image stabilization.

The iPhone 4S camera also boasts an improved custom lens and a wider aperture to allow in more light to provide brighter colors and better low-light performance. You take pictures faster, with more vivid colors and better white balance. The processor also helps focus and balance exposure as you snap photos, with the ability to detect up to ten faces in a group shot.

Apple says, the photos taken by iPhone 4S can print 8.5-by-11-inch photographs, and that they?ll be literally pixel-perfect.
4. iOS 5

The new iPhone runs Apple's iOS 5 operating system, which was announced in June at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference.

teep upgrade from iOS 4 and has more than 200 new features, including much deeper social integration from Twitter, better camera software and a powerful new notifications tray that swipes down from the top of the screen.

5. Siri Voice Assistance

One other major software addition that makes iPhone 4S special is the new Siri voice assistant software. It's a new virtual assistant application which allows users to give voice commands, and after interpreting those commands, it performs the desired duty.

It's a smart app that you can ask questions to, such as what the weather is or how to get to a certain restaurant. Apple cautioned that Siri is still in beta, so it might not be able to answer all of your questions, yet.

6. Will it be 4G

The iPhone 4S is not equipped for true 4G using LTE or WiMAX. However, it offer faster download and upload speeds using HSPA networks, a technology that is a bit faster than the 3G connection.

The iPhone 4S offers maximum 14.4 Mbps downloads and 5.8 Mbps upload. Data speeds will be somewhat faster on AT&T than on Sprint and Verizon because of HSPA technology.

The iPhone 4S is a world phone, meaning its internals support both CDMA and GSM networks. So you can buy any iPhone 4S you'd like, and it w

ill work on the supported network of your choosing AT&T's, Sprint's, Verizon's, or international carriers that support those standards.

The battery life of the iPhone 4S is supposedly higher than the last model, and it is rated for 8 hours of 3G talk time, 10 hours of video playback and 40 hours of music playback. The iOS 5 software may potentially contribute some of the better battery life.
